About this procedure
A retrocalcaneal exostosis — often called a Haglund’s deformity or “pump bump” — is a bony prominence at the back of the heel that inflames the Achilles tendon and makes closed shoes miserable.
In this clip, Dr. Panchal removes the prominence through a minimally invasive approach: a small incision, a specialized burr, and live X-ray guidance instead of a long open exposure. Less soft-tissue disruption typically means a smaller scar and an easier early recovery for appropriate candidates.
